ENDODONTICS
Root End Surgery / Apicoectomy
To remove the tip of a tooth root
An apicoectomy is usually only prescribed after one or more root canals, or when a root canal is not possible. Apicoectomy is prescribed when the tissue around the tip of your tooth's root becomes infected or reinfected, even after a prior procedure.
The main goal is to keep the tooth intact, and prevent it from needing to be removed.
The root of the tooth is an entrance for nerves and blood vessels into the tooth. During the procedure, the dentist will remove the tip of the root as well as the infected tissue, and then place a cap to seal the end of the root.
